Free Metanephrines (Metanephrine (MN), Normetanephrine (NMN) and 3-Methoxytyramine) are created by the action of Catechol-O-Methyl Transferase (COMT) on Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and Dopamine, respectively. Quantification of plasma free metanephrines is used for the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma and the follow-up of patients. It is analytically challenging for clinical researchers due to its extremely low concentrations in biological matrices.
AFFINIMIP® SPE Metanephrines are selective solid phase extraction cartridges that selectively clean and concentrate the Metanephrines prior to analysis by HPLC.

Mass chromatogram (SIM+) of plasma spiked with 60nM of Metanephrines after clean-up with AFFINIMIP® SPE Metanephrines. MN: Metanephrine (m/z=180); NMN: Normetanephrine (m/z=166); 3MT: 3-Methoxytyramine (m/z=151)
This study describes the solid phase extraction of Metanephrines from plasma sample using a Molecularly Imprinted Polymer (MIP) SPE cartridge developed by POLYINTELL that is specific for Metanephrines (AFFINIMIP® SPE Metanephrines). In addition, a comparison with a Weak Cation Exchange SPE cartridge is shown.
